Best Budget Beauty Finds

Hi everyone, Lily from LilyLipstick here and today I'm going to share with you my best budget beauty finds.

Despite purchasing make-up since the age of 14, I'm still undecided as to whether expensive products perform better than cheaper ones. 10 years of "insight" has led me to the conclusion that sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Not very insightful. Beauty bloggers have definitely helped me to determine which pricey products are worth my hard-earned cash and which bargain buys are just as good, if not better. While I love treating myself to high end brands and love how expensive products look on my dressing table, sometimes you can't or don't want to spend a small fortune on an essential make-up item.

Here are my top 5 picks:

1. 17 Pressed Powder - quite simply, I will never purchase another pressed powder. This one is under £5, keeps my skin matte for hours despite me suffering from the dreaded "shiny nose" and is light enough to look invisible on my super pale skin. I've tried powders by Clinque and Mac which have given me breakouts and have ended up in the bin. This may not be as beautifully packaged but it has a mirror in the compact which is great for touch-ups and I'm not going to be too devastaed if I drop it onto a tiled bathroom floor and it shatters (seems to happen a little too often for my liking!).

2. Sleek Pout Polish - I use this on days when I don't want to wear lipstick but still need something to brighten up my face. The colour is really pigmented (to the point where you need to make sure you clean it off of your fingers before touching anything else) and long lasting without being at all stickly. I also love how this contains SPF 15 which gives it pride of place in my summer and holiday make-up bags. The pot contains 10g of product so it's amazing value and means you can save your pennies for a Mac lipstick for days when you do want to wear it.

3. ELF Mineral Eyeshadow Primer - I purchased this after getting tired of trying to scrape the remainder of my Urban Decay Primer Potion out of the terribly designed packaging. Like all ELF Mineral products this set me back £3.50 so I wasn't going to be too disappointed if I didn't like it. After using it for a couple of weeks, I shall definitely be re-purchasing this rather then UDPP. The formula is slightly runnier than UDPP and it takes a few more seconds to dry but apart from that the products are practically identical. My eyeshadow looks more pigmented and stays crease free all day and I even use this on no-eyeshadow days to even out and brighten my eyelids.

4. Rimmel Lash Accelerator mascara - I rarely re-purchase mascara so when I do, I know it's because the product is something special. The brush of this mascara is the perfect size to give volumised lashes without blobbing mascara around your eyelids. I love how it can be layered on without clumping and since using this mascara I've had a few people asking me if I'm wearing lashes which is probably the biggest compliment a mascara can get. It lasts all day without smudging and is easy to remove too. This tube is "extreme black" as I like a dramatic lash look but the regular version is great too.

5. ELF Undereye Concealer - I must have got through about 10 tubes of YSL Touche Eclat before I discovered this product. Yes, the packaging is nowhere near as beautiful and I wouldn't even bother using the "highlighter" end but the concealer is amazing. It doesn't crease or settle into fine lines and makes such a difference to my dark circles which are always present no matter how much sleep I get. For £3.50 this is such a hard-working product. I've had mine for over a year and it's still going strong whereas back when I used Touche Eclat I'd get through a tube about every 6 months which was ridiculous (and expensive).

Using these budget basics means that I have spare cash to spend on Mac eyeshadows, Sk:n skincare and my favourite Clinique High Impact lipsticks.

What are your favourite beauty bargains? And which products will you only purchase from high-end brands?

Autumn faves with Kenzie

Today we have the ever so lovely Kenzie, from Kenzie Faith (one of my ALL TIME fave blogs!)
Fall must-haves
Autumn is honestly one of my favorite seasons to dress for. Cold weather means lots of layers--and y'know what? I'm a layerin' kinda girl. Above is a small example of what I would consider to be my list of must have's this season.

Cardigans, shawls & ponchos.
I mean, hello! Cardigans are so easy to layer because they seriously go with just about anything. Dresses, button-ups, tanks, tees--you name it! And then there's the shawl which, in my opinion, looks best with loose tops and fitted dresses. And then the poncho! I used to hate them but now I'm so excited they're back in style (and way better than before - so many gorgeous prints/patterns) They look awesome with leggings!

Riding boots
Any kind of boot is an absolute must-have for fall (duh!) The riding boot looks awesome over a pair of tights with bunched up knee-highs layered on top. So in love with that look - completes any outfit!

Tights
As we saw last year, tights are a perfect addition to any look. There are SO many different colors, patterns, and textures out there - you can pretty much find them in any shop. Last year, bright colored tights were my absolute favorite!

Glasses
It's so cool what a cute pair of frames can do for an outfit. (But let's not include those awful 3D glasses that everyone takes from the movie theater and pops the lenses out of - I hate that look.) Warby Parker has a great collection. You're allowed to try out five frames FREE for five days - hint hint!

Totes
I am a serious fan of these bags. Lots of space to throw in an extra pair of socks or even a cardigan along with other cold-weather necessities like hand cream and lip balm! I've had my eyes on this particular Zara shopper tote for quite some time.

Smart Phones
I was so against buying a smart phone (why would I need internet on my phone!? I have internet at home!) but once I finally gave in, I was a forever changed lady. It's awesome being able to so easily Google a place to eat, or even a place to shop! It's very convenient. I will never go back!

Warm Drinks
Well duh ;-) Just found an awesome recipe for Starbucks' Carmel Apple Spice that I can't wait to try out and I've also heard a lot of people say that hot chocolate with Nutella is fantastic! And of course, there's my personal favorite.... coffee!

Life after 20 - By Jenni Austria Germany

When I reflect upon the past few years of my life, I realize that Europe has played an enormous role in my life post 20. This still surprises me sometimes. Before age 20, I'd never left the continent of North America and then, suddenly, Europe is my new home. How does that even happen? Let me explain....

Age 20: At the age of 20, I went to Europe for the first time. I began the trip with my parents and sisters (we traveled through France, England and Ireland), continued the trip with my best friend after they left (we traveled through Germany, Austria and Italy) and ended the trip alone (in Greece!). Looking back, I have no idea how I survived this summer because I was definitely no expert in European travel. I made so many rookie mistakes but I learned from these mistakes and, luckily, lived to tell the stories!

Age 21: Sigh. This was such a good year of my life. At the age of 21, I moved to Salzburg, Austria to attend the University of Salzburg. Not only did I fall in love with the city of Salzburg but Austria quickly became my favorite country of all time. There's just something about waking up every day to the beauty of the Alps. I'll never get over that -- so much beauty in one place, I could cry.

Age 22: This year was another great year for me! I moved to Vienna, Austria to intern for the US Embassy and was shocked by how different the two Austrian cities -- Vienna and Salzburg -- compare. Salzburg is a hard city to live up to but Vienna gave it quite the run for its money. This year only made me love Austria more than ever. I get so nostalgic when I think of my time there and I know Vienna will always be a place I'll visit regularly.

Age 23: This year might have been my hardest year yet. I moved to Germany and settled just outside of Nuremberg, teaching English at two different schools (middle - high school level). The year was full of ups and downs and if we're being honest, there were more 'downs' than 'ups'. But I learned a lot and that's what matters, right? Right. I think. I hope.

Age 24: This year of my life is just beginning. In fact...it begins today! Today is my 24th birthday. I'm going to come right out and say with high hopes that 24 will be my best year yet! To see how this next chapter of my life unfolds, join me here.

Thanks so much for having me, Alex!
